Baptiste Vandaele is a designer and illustrator based in Paris and graduated from the Fine Arts School of Nancy in 2012. For several years now, his work has focused on pattern design with a playful and maximalist ornamental approach. The artist has collaborated on numerous projects with designers and architects on hand-made tableware and textile flooring and he has also carried fruitful collaborations with the Mama Shelter hotel brand, having more than 50 of his creations adorn floors and walls in hotels in Paris, Lisbon, Prague, Belgrade, Luxembourg, Rome, Rennes, and soon Casablanca, Nice and Zurich.

- How would you describe the art that you create?

As an illustrator and designer focusing on patterns, I tend not to stick to an easily recognizable graphic style, but rather experiment and try new things with each project. It’s a way to surprise myself and bring something unique to the commissioner. However, my patterns have a common urge to be maximalist, colorful, playful, and they all tell stories. They are also all connected by my inspirations - nature, architecture, cities, sciences, and food.
