Josef Rozehnal is the founder and chief designer of NAHAKU, a studio based in Brno, Czech Republic. His work focuses on creating from waste materials, using upcycling tools, specializing in interior design, standalone pieces, and light installations, all grounded in strong conceptual foundations. With his work, the artist aims to highlight the issue of excessive production of low-value products and the contemporary consumer society and explores innovative methods for processing various materials such as glass, metals, plastics, and rattan, all with a deep respect for craftsmanship and attention to detail. NAHAKU is developing its own material library, a repository of resources to be used as needed, while at the same time collaborating with renowned brands such as Moet Hennessy, Mattoni, and Pilsner Urquell.
- What are the main messages that the art you create communicates?
“The aim is to make a real impact on how waste is handled, constantly seeking new paths towards a more sustainable future. We see our work as an opportunity for public education and aim to influence the current state of overproduction. We’re not just going through the motions.”
